Cloud Solutions Architect

Remote, Houston

Description of Position:

The Cloud Solutions Architect will lead and manage the strategy, architecture, development and deployment of end-to-end cloud solutions and infrastructure in support our operations on the ground and on-orbit in our Station.

Responsibilities:

1. Design and manage the architecture of an evolvable, scalable, and maintainable cloud solution for ground and space infrastructure:

  • Development of cloud architecture and requirements for ground and space infrastructure, including enterprise IT, software development, engineering for mission control and in space infrastructure, and revenue generating partnerships with customers and product platforms.

  • Guide engineering teams in implementing hardware and software solutions in support of integrated cloud solutions.

  • Work with program management in planning and scheduling of cloud solutions development, integration and test tasks.

  • Define and implement an extensible, automated problem reporting system that is accessible by cloud service provider and technology partners.

  • Work closely with partners, including cloud service providers and technology partners for integration, test and ongoing support of cloud services.

2. Supervise continuing sustainability and resiliency of our cloud infrastructure:

  • Lead engagement with 3rd party cloud solutions providers.

  • Advise the corporate IT team on cloud solutions for our ground and corporate operations.

  • Advise the engineering organization on pertinent cloud solutions for the optimization of our digital engineering practices.

  • Advise the revenue team on customer deals with third party cloud providers and customers with cloud needs.

  • Advise the product team on developing cloud capabilities for internal and mission critical needs as well as for shared infrastructure for revenue generating purposes.

  • Implement configuration management, quality, access control and cybersecurity management systems.

3. Be a leader in the evolution of cloud capabilities on the ground and in space:

  • Identify and communicate current and emerging cloud capabilities across the entire organization.

  • Align organizational cloud strategy and infrastructure with overall business and technology strategy.

  • Lead design upgrades to cloud infrastructure.

  • Regularly communicate vital information, cloud solutions needs, and priorities to senior leadership.

  • Analyze and investigate advanced cloud software and hardware capabilities.

  • Be an ambassador for us to the space industry and cloud ecosystems .

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship.

  • Candidates must be U.S. Citizens. 

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an IT, Computer Science or Software Engineering field.

  • 10+ years’ total professional experience.

  • 5+ years’ experience with DoD organizations, requirements, and DoD-utilized cloud infrastructure solutions (i.e., AWS GovCloud, Microsoft GCC High etc.).

  • 5+ years’ experience in cloud infrastructure architecture, technology solutions, service definition within AWS, Microsoft, IBM, or comparable environments.

  • The experience and technical expertise to build cloud infrastructure from scratch or update existing systems in response to ongoing changes in the cloud services landscape.

  • Extensive background in public and private cloud, including hybrid cloud architectures, service definition, infrastructure implementation and software development.

  • Utilizing emerging technologies to design and implement cloud solutions; monitoring and improving those solutions while working with a multi-disciplinary team of IT professionals and space systems engineers.

  • Advising engineering teams on the design and development of cloud best practices.

  • Experience with Windows, UNIX and Linux operating systems.

  • Coding experience with C/C++, Java, Python or comparable.

  • Experience with REST APIs and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with Agile and DevSecOps software development, test and delivery methods; configuration management and problem reporting tools.

  • Thorough understanding of relevant industry security standards and protocols including ISO27001 and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

  • Ability to multi-task, work independently with minimal supervision, and make and communicate the rationale behind key decisions in a constantly evolving fast-paced work environment.

  • Strong project and time management skills with a high level of intuition and judgment.

  • Must have a “can do” attitude – no job is too big or small, problem solver.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to integrate quickly into a small team and represent the company with integrity.

Desired:

  • Master’s Degree in an IT, Computer Science or Software Engineering field

  • Pertinent cloud certifications:

    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect

    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate

    • Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)

    • Cloud Security Alliance: Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK)

  • Experience developing resilient edge computing offerings for remote, extreme environments.
